The upcoming PBS Kids show, “Lyla in the Loop,” will be the network’s first interactive series that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) into its episodes, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The show, set to debut in 2024, will explore the ethical use of AI and will undergo research to evaluate children’s learning and engagement. Developed by Dave Peth and funded by grants, the series will premiere on February 5 in both English and Spanish.
“Lyla in the Loop” follows the adventures of a 7-year-old girl named Lyla Loops, who lives in Philadelphia and is accompanied by both her best friend and a fantastical sidekick named Stu. Young viewers will witness Lyla facing various challenges, including creating art projects that involve real-world AI tools.
Notably, the show will feature interactive episodes that allow viewers to engage in AI-assisted conversations with the characters. Additionally, PBS plans to create similar interactive AI episodes for the series, “Elinor Wonders Why.”
